"What is BigQuery?" for rookies

Okay, you made it here, you want to get your hands more into GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and you are interested to know: “What is BigQuery?”. You keep hearing it all the time.  Well, imagine you have a shop and you want to analyze buying habits of  your clients during the summer period. That’s relatively easy: If you have a database, you can run a query and get some results, right?But what if you don’t have just a single shop, and you have thousands of shops? What if you want to get more detailed answers? Let’s say you want to figure out the buying habits of your clients by month, by region, by SKU? Things would definitely get more complex! It’s pretty simple to understand that the more information you have to search within, the more time it will take to get an answer back. And to get that answer back faster, you need more infrastructure. More infrastructure means more servers, more electricity, more personnel for maintenance, more licenses for software, more this, more that…Well, here

The cloud storage new Prefix and suffix lifecycle conditions

Recently, Google Cloud Storage launch powerful new object lifecycle rules for GCS to help us control cloud storage costs in new ways. Two new features are included in this launch.Prefix/suffix lifecycle conditionsBefore,  we already had several lifecycle conditions to choose from, such as the age of an object, its version history, a custom timestamp, and more. Now, we can add conditions on the names of objects; specifically, matching a prefix or a suffix.  Prefix and suffix conditions are helpful for a number of cases. Here are two:Managing common object prefixes separately. It's quite common to group objects using a common prefix, such as in a dataset. Now, lifecycle conditions can act on those groups using a MatchesPrefix rule.Managing categories of objects separately. It's also common to use "extensions" on object keys to denote the format of the data; .mp4, .zip, .csv, and so on.  we often have a mix of these within a bucket, and would like to use the extension to manage them separ

Uploading a database file

Started a new project. Added a MySQL instance. Now, I want to work on Chinook database as part of learning.I do not think Import Option will be the right option as it asks for SQL/CSV file to import. In other words, this appears to be the place to import data that comes with a database. But the structure of data is yet not uploaded.  Perhaps need to upload chinook.db file. Guidance on how to start working with Chinook database appreciated. I have worked on Chinook database after downloading SQLite on my PC. Looking forward to replicating the same on Google Cloud.

How the new resources get added to the Cloud

We have GCP private cloud Setup in Wells Fargo.  We will be requesting new  Resources  from a Cloud portal /GKE /GCP console  , I wonder how the required resources are made available  Like  compute/networking/storage  etc.  Who will be performing those tasks.  Will there be a monitoring section to check if the required resources are available  or not?   Pl throw some light on this.

PostgreSQL database and BigQuery: How to run query after connecting as External Data Source

As part of my attempt to run my first SQL query using BigQuery for a PostgreSQL database, I have been able to connect as External Data Source.  Unable to figure out how to actually now run query after connecting. When I tried with this:    SELECT *    FROM accountsThis is the warning:Table "accounts" must be qualified with a dataset (e.g. dataset.table). Do I still need to create a dataset? Or what is needed to be done next. Help appreciated.
