My writing, talks and consulting work for the past few years have centered more and more on why problems occur when they do rather than finding a solution to the problem experienced. The difference is important because it marks a shift from treating the symptoms to discovering and removing (or moderating) the source. Within this context, friction, borrowed from Physics and Engineering is a real thing. This video explains the concept. The moment we apply systems science to the issues we encounter we can find solutions that may not always be apparent and yet provide a deeper improvement than we might have otherwise achieved.
