Shared Benefits of DevOps and SREWith the growing complexity of application development, organizations are increasingly adopting methodologies that enable reliable, scalable software. For over a decade, two similar concepts, DevOps and SRE, have been existing together in the world of software development. They may look like competitors. However, a closer view reveals that obvious rivals are complementary pieces of a puzzle that fit nicely together. DevOps is a broad philosophy and culture because it affects more major changes than SRE does. DevOps is more context-sensitive. DevOps is relatively silent on how to run operations at a detailed level. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), on the other hand, relatively defined responsibilities. Its remit is generally service-oriented and ends user-oriented rather than the completely business oriented. This chapter from the book "The Site Reliability Workbook" explains how DevOps and SRE facilitate building reliable software, where they overlap

Today at Google I/O, we’re thrilled to announce the preview of AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, a fully-managed, PostgreSQL-compatible database service that provides a powerful option for modernizing your most demanding enterprise database workloads.Compared with standard PostgreSQL, in our performance tests, AlloyDB was more than four times faster for transactional workloads, and up to 100 times faster for analytical queries. AlloyDB was also two times faster for transactional workloads than Amazon’s comparable service. This makes AlloyDB a powerful new modernization option for transitioning off of legacy databases. Data loss and security breaches are becoming increasingly common events in today’s world. It is not a matter of when, but if a disaster of any kind will happen. All of an organization’s information must be protected and readily available at all times in order for a business to survive. Considering this fact, the importance of backups cannot be overestimated. However, while backing up vital data is an integral part of any business’s IT strategy, having backups − whether they are a cloud backup or on-prem − is not the same as having a disaster recovery plan. Differentiating backup from disaster recovery can help you develop effective strategies for avoiding the consequences of downtime and business disruptions.Understanding the basics of backup and disaster recovery is critical for minimizing the impact of unplanned downtime on your business. Across all industries, organizations recognize that downtime can quickly result in lost sales and revenue, interrupted service, possible supply ch
Anthos Clusters on Azure and Anthos Clusters on AWS now support Kubernetes versions 1.22.8-gke.200 and 1.21.11-gke.100
With Anthos Multi-Cloud, you can create Kubernetes clusters in both AWS and Azure cloud environments. Anthos clusters integrate with cloud provider specific resources such as load balancers and persistent storage. With a single-cloud platform design, you are forced into using highly-integrated cloud-specific tools. This creates one silo for each cloud environment. With Anthos clusters, you can deploy workloads to multiple clouds with a unified management, signaling, and configuration control plane. You can manage your Kubernetes clusters on AWS and Azure from the Google Cloud console. With Connect gateway, you can connect to your clusters in any cloud with your Google Cloud identity for authentication. For more information about other Anthos clusters environments, see Anthos clusters.Let me know what you think about this latest announcement from Google in the comments section.

Cloud networking refers to the ability to connect two resources together inside a cloud, across clouds and with on-premises data centers. A cloud provider needs to provide three main types of connectivity:Site-to-cloud - Between on-premises equipment and cloud resources Site-to-site - To connect on-premises resources together VPC-to-VPC - Connectivity between cloud resourcesLet’s take a look at each one!👉 Come on source.
The following article was posted on the Google Cloud Devops-SRE blog and provides advice for SRE teams around choosing their SLOs appropriately. I especially appreciate two components of this blog post. First, the emphasis on visibility into your system when assessing appropriate SLOs, and second, the use of visibility and risk analysis in the process.Have you been responsible for identifying SLOs for your systems? Did you use a systemic analysis of risk as recommended by this article? Did you consider the impact on visibility into system performance if the services you use for monitoring and alerting fail?https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/devops-sre/how-sres-analyze-risks-to-evaluate-slos
At this C2C Event, we will present UberCloud’s fully automated and self-service engineering simulation platform on the Google Cloud Platform. An important part of this platform are high-performance software containers which host the engineer’s simulation workflow, e.g. for fluid dynamics or material analysis simulation applications. Benefits are many. E.g. for engineers this means easy, seamless access to any number (cluster) of high-performance GCP instances, resulting in 10X productivity increase. For R&D managers, they deliver their projects in shorter time and higher quality, and can help discover failures in product design early. And for corporate management, this cloud approach helps shortening time to market, increasing product quality, and foster innovation and competitiveness. You want to know more, and learn from a customer case study in manufacturing? Then join us at this event on May 18.

Every video shared, every email sent and app downloaded depends on data traffic that moves through international network infrastructure. How is this content magically available to people within milliseconds? It’s thanks to a rich ecosystem of companies and local providers who build global infrastructure that provides businesses and people around the world with the best possible experience for browsing, video conferencing, streaming, and much more. At Google, this work ranges from building and operating highly secure data centers and network “highways” traversing the globe, to maintaining the Google Global Cache that stores popular content near its users. State of DevOps 2021 report (from Google Cloud’s DevOps Research and Assessment - DORA - team) is available at the following link: https://cloud.google.com/devops and has some really interesting takeaways. One of my favorites? The recognition that SRE and DevOps are complimentary cultures! For a while I was seeing a lot of posts on LinkedIn and elsewhere asking whether you thought DevOps or SRE was a stronger methodology, and I always thought the question was odd. In my mind they have always been complimentary. Both highly responsive, focused on keeping the customer happy by meeting their needs rapidly, incorporating as much automation as possible, and relying upon agile teams…What’s your favorite takeaway from the report? Hi All,I am trying to upload PDF files (few hundred pages each) with different structures and annotate them using in the UI, I've used the provided tool to get a JSONL for my first file. however, every time I provide the URL and try to import the data I receive the below error, I also noticed that the JSONL file has a very small size. I would extremely grateful if someone could guide me toward a solution or provide pertinent resources. Thanks a lot.

Recently I set up a Partner Interconnect with third party. But, I needed to set up a “DMZ” in order to keep it safe…Unless the GKE pod subnet should be advertised on BGP (for connection stablishment between peer network and cluster network)How many of you have overcame this with DMZ approach?
Hey all, awesome to be a part of this community! Is anyone here running most of their backend on cloud functions and have any tips on CI/CD and organization of large scale cloud functions backends? Right now we have a fairly robust testing and staging flow but we’re still manually deploying cloud functions because there doesn’t seem to be an intuitive way to automatically deploy the functions and code that has been changed. Has anyone else run into this problem and have any tips and ideas on how to organize projects like this and deploy them at scale. Thanks!
