Hi everyone, This question came up for me this morning with our Security Operations team. The context is GCP, but Groups transcend Workspace so I came over here to ask for opinions as well.SecOps gave me an example of an existing group with a bunch of service account members. When I inspected the GCP role assignments of these members I noticed they were almost the same; a couple service account had different roles. To me a group is a collection of things meant to be managed in the same way.At a minimum, my view is that groups should be homogeneous: all user accounts or all service accounts. Moreover I can be easily convinced service accounts ought to be banned from groups altogether in a cloud application environment despite Google’s allowing it: https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2020/08/service-accounts-in-google-groups-beta.htmlWhat’s your take?
I’ve been working with our Google Sales rep and support for several months trying to get this working (it went GA at the beginning of the year). The folks from Chronicle seem to be missing in action and don’t return emails and the support teams can’t figure out how to enable the settings. We’ve also reached out to several Partners (we are an in-progress partner); most of which can’t get it working either on their customers. Is anyone else having luck with this? Or is it a released-but-not-really-released product? https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/10106035?hl=en Our goal is to test this out on a smaller domain before rolling it out to our larger domains. This was a much touted piece of BeyondCorp this year...
For me this was most awaited feature which recently got extended from education to business subscription in Google Workspace editions. https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2021/06/additional-admin-controls-for-joining-google-meet-calls.html?m=1 Now we can easily control internal/external Google Meet meeting participation. Earlier it was really hard to accept that users can join anything on meet. How about others, did you feel the same? Also, I tested it OU wide which works fine but honestly i am still seeking this one to be manageable via Google Groups also.
In order to maintain the segregation of duties, enabling Client-side encryption requires you to choose a key access service partner: Flowcrypt, Futurex, Thales, or Virtru. Each of these partners have built tools in accordance with Google’s specifications and provide both key management and access control capabilities. Your partner of choice holds the key to decode encrypted Google Workspace files, and Google cannot access or decipher these files without this key. If you prefer to build or integrate your own in-house key services, we will be publishing the key access service API specifications that can be used with Client-side encryption later this year.Resource: Google Workspace delivers new levels of trusted collaboration for a hybrid work world I'm interested to learn what others think about encrypted files, how are they planning to use those and specifically can this functionality be approached as a new level of permissions. For example instead of integrating Drive with WorPress to
Hello Everyone,Just going through the following update received today. https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2021/06/drive-file-link-updates.html Google is making files more secure by adding resource key in shared items and sending alerts to almost all orgs with the count of affected files, users, etc.But we need to know the affected files and their owners, is there any way to get affected files and owners with respect to the alert? Also if this would have any impact on existing Google App Script, 3rd party apps, etc.I am not sure if we can get these files using GAM/GAMADVX using some kind of filters.Any recommendations would be beneficial.
Google Contacts is often over looked, but this latest update brings contact into Google Workspace allowing you to see the organisational information such as managers and direct reports from the Google Directory. I think this is a brilliant update and helps bring a wealth of contact information to users.Do you already use Google contacts to find people within your organisation, and what’s your thoughts on this latest update?
Have any of you been asked if you can track user time in Google Workspace?I have a rather old school client, who recently moved to GW, and they want to be able to see how long their team are working in GW.These questions always make my skin itch a bit, partly due to the out dated managers it reminds me of working under, but also because I’m sure there’s some legal hole I could fall into if I provide this and the team raise a grievance.I hope the answer is “you can’t”, so I can swerve it easily!
How are people moving away from Zoom to Google Meet?Having video backgrounds is good fun, but doesn't provide huge business benefit. I would have preferred Google to have focused its efforts on closing the feature gaps between Meet and Zoom Webinar. Zoom Webinar has some really nice features such as a registration page, PayPal integration etc.How have others addressed these feature gaps of Google Meet?
Just read this article about individuals and creative groups combining Google Workspace with Adobe Creative Cloud.I did not know that there was an Adobe’s add-on for Google Workspace and that it had over a million installations and counts.Did you know? Do you use it? What do you think about this?
Yesterday during the C2C UK&I event we discussed in detail the offboarding of Google Workspace accounts, and what organisations do with users data, specifically email.Interestingly this generated a lot of differing views, and whether it was ethical to migrate email from an employee leaving the organisation to say a colleague or a manager. What if there were personal conversations between the employee and HR was an example used? From a legal perspective, and with clear employment contracts in-place the emails are the property of the company. What are your thoughts on this, do you migrate email or just archive and only access if necessary?
When creating an event the organiser can choose to allow edits from their guests. A great and pointed ability to allow guests to add event details. A calendar owner can also choose to share their calendar with edit rights to an organisation. Most of the time this is an over extension of rights that most would not want to use. When creating and sharing an event I can set the “let guests edit event” as default too. But that setting seems overly broad in some cases. I’d love to be able to set this setting as default for company internal guests so I can ensure that all my colleagues who are guests of an event can simply go in and edit an event while external guests can not. This has a handful of benefits to the users:Users can ask another guest to add or edit a section of an event w/o being the organiser or a calendar editor. Users can still be sure that external guests are not able to edit the event if they don't want that to happen. Users in an organisation often have a different (higher

I recently read the following article on the new “right to disconnect” campaignSuggesting that “bosses to add footers to any messages, reminding workers that they are not obliged to reply when not at work.” Obviously having created Patronum with email signature management included, we’d love to see these things being done within more organisations. However, what other things are you doing to help employees better manage their work life balance?
I have received a recommendation from @alan.muntadas and @JoeyMaller_UCC during the weekly coffee Community Meet about two choices for intergating a list of files [videos] in Shared Drives to a WordPress site:using Google Sites or working with Drive API What would you choose?
