I thought this article from Tech HQ really nailed with @ChristianNewman and team was getting at during the Talk last week.

Take a look at the Tech HQ article.  Some of the features it highlights that demonstrate how the product is focusing on remote work are as follows:

  1. Google Assistant where users can now use their voice to ask Google what’s next on their calendar or to quickly join a meeting and send a message.
  2. Recurring ‘out-of-office’ events where users will be able to schedule regular, recurring out-of-office blocks.
  3. Second screen experiences in Google Meet where users can host meetings across a mix of devices.

For optimal employee engagement and productivity, the collaboration experience must be designed to be remote-first. In other words, when some employees inevitably make their way back to a physical office, however infrequently, they adapt to the remote-work majority, not the other way around as it was in the past.

Certain remote-friendly features Google’s introduced will benefit eventual or occasional office workers alike: Such as split working hours. Like the remote worker who takes time away for homeschooling duties each day, so does the office worker who starts their day at home, and takes time away to commute before resuming their day in the office setting.

Either way, Google Workspace is becoming more flexible and helpful to all work styles.

Totally agree with @ChristianNewman . Work must start to become remote-first. One suggest is to use the Google Meet nickname feature to create a /watercooler area where employees can start a Meet and drop in if they just need to chat over a cup of coffee. ☕
